What is the difference between a payment gateway and a payment processor?

As online workers, we will often hear the terms payment gateway and payment processor. According to Forbes, some of the best payment gateways today are Paypal, Square. Shopify, Helcim, Payline, etc. While examples of payment processors are Paypal, Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Braintree. So in your opinion, what is the difference between a payment gateway and a payment processor?

A payment gateway acts as the front-end for online transactions, collecting and encrypting customer payment data. It then transmits this data to a payment processor to authorizes the transaction by communicating with the customer's bank to approves or declines the payment,

While payment professor handles the actual transaction, payment gateway hands the data and information of the customer.

For me l think both of the two works hand in hand in dealing with cash payments and transactions. However there is the one that deals with the final end like handing over the cash to the customers that are the payment processors for sure.
