What is the scope of UI/UX as a tech skill?

I have been hearing people talking about UI/UX as a tech skill. And I want to find out it's scope as a tech skill. What do they really do in UI/I? How long does it take on average to learn the skill? And how lucrative is it in the tech skill markets?

UI/UX has to do with the design and navigation of digital products and sites. It is the layout of the plan of how the site or app would look and feel.
