What is the use for the HDMI port on laptops?

I have noticed that most laptops nowadays comes with a HDMI port. So what is the possible use for that?

The HDMI port is basically for expanding the display of the computer through a cable called HDMI cable.

I think it is use to project your laptop to a tv, I use it most times to watch movies or work on a project, and I need a bigger screen,I just project it to the tv.
