In our country, parents are required to equally divide their property among their children. This is for ancestral property. In other words, if your parents inherited the property from their parents, you are the natural heir. However, if the property was earned by your parents, it is their choice to give or not to give to the kids. When you inherit property from your parents, you are also required to bear any debt your parents might have.

In India ancestral property can be inherited by all the people of the family but self acquired property has to transferred by the owner to whoever he wants to or else his children have to get it through filing a succession case.

In my country there are two inheritance laws in force, the first is the national inheritance law where the inheritance will be divided equally among all children, the second is the inheritance law according to Islam where the inheritance is divided based on gender with a ratio of 2:1, 2 for men and 1 for women.
