If you run an online store, traffic is essential because without traffic there will be no sales, thus no profit. Generally speaking, you can get three different types of traffic:

  1. Organic Traffic: When online searchers discover your products or store while searching something on search engine, might visit your store through the search result link.
  2. Referral Traffic: If you have built a huge following on social sites and if your followers visit your store through the link you shared, that is referral traffic.
  3. Direct Traffic: When you share links on various places, and when visitors come directly to your store through a shared link, whether from email, forum posts, or personal referrals, that’s direct traffic.
 
If you sell online without traffic, it's like opening a shop in the woods. No one will come in, no sales, no profits. Traffic is the lifeblood of online business.

Organic traffic is that of people who find you by searching for something on Google. Referral is that of your fans finding you from social media. Direct is that where you share your links directly.

Don't just sit around waiting for traffic to come. Advertise yourself, talk to people. Make sure all types of traffic reach you. That's when business starts moving forward without being pushed.
