What percentage of the business profits after all expenses should an entrepreneur pay himself or herself? Should he take all the profits?
 
Even if you own the company, you should treat yourself as an employee. That means giving yourself a salary that covers your living expenses comfortably. For small businesses, this might be 20–40% of profits depending on how stable the cash flow is
 
It is wise for an entrepreneur to separate personal pay from business reinvestment. Taking some profits as a salary is fair, yet leaving money in the business allows it to expand and survive slow periods. How much to take depends on the business size and goals, but keeping some profits inside usually benefits long term stability more than taking everything at once.
