What should be the standard pay rate for an article?

Well, I have written an article for just 50 cents and I have also received $60 for a single article. However, when I started as a freelance writer, I maintained that 1 cent per word would be the lowest I can go for article writing, so I asked $5 for 500 words. But these days, I ask for at least 2 cents per word, so a 500 words article gets me $10. What do you think should be standard rate for an article?

I can do an article for one cent a word as at now to get $10 for a one thousand worded article. I believe that rate is to a large extent fair.
