The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has questioned the whereabouts of President Bola Tinubu.

Obi made the call in a statement posted on his verified X account on Monday.

He framed the question as “a critical demand for accountability in a national emergency.”

“As we approach the end of this year, Nigeria will be home to approximately 140 million people living in extreme poverty — the highest number in the world,” the ex-governor said, adding that the country is grappling with widespread hunger, worsening insecurity and mass.

The political and social turmoil unfolding in Nigeria is evident through Obi’s comment concerning the absence of President Bola Tinubu at the events. For me, the part of the interview that stands out the most is his way of posing the question as “a critical demand for accountability during this time of national emergency.”
To me, the astonishing data he presents concerning the number of people – 140 million people with extreme poverty – is eye-opening and points out the magnitude of the situation the country faces. It is quite fascinating to see that Obi raises not only the point concerning the loss of leadership resulting from the absence of the head of the state at events, including the situation with hunger and the impending sense of security and dissatisfaction felt by citizens, but also points out the differing circumstances the country faces based upon geography and political demarcations. For me, the highlight of the interview revolves around the pressing need to provide solutions to the problems posed by these types of demands.

Let's forget about all the politics and everything, this question is actually a very legit one that needs answers. There is no accountability when it comes to the Tinubu government.
