From Kigal, Rwanda report, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief on Monday called on world leaders to prioritize HIV prevention and embrace meaningful partnerships in an effort to achieve the goal of ending AIDS.

The report said that International AIDS Society conference on HIV Science in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, said governments, scientists, civil society and affected communities must stand together to uphold advances made in treatment, prevention, and care services.

The report added that the WHO also used the opportunity to issue new guidelines recommending the use of injectable lenacapavir (LEN) as an additional pre-exposure prophylaxis option for HIV prevention, along with injectable antiretroviral for treatment.

In addition to the report, in 2024, there was an estimated 40.8 million people living with HIV with an estimated 65 percent in WHO African region, according to WHO data.

The cost of HIV drugs have skyrocketed since Donald Trump withdraw USAID from helping and aiding Africa countries who have been devastated bythe deadly virus. WHO should endeavor to work round the clock and help African countries to solve HIV/AIDS challenge.

The affected countries need help from the different countries to stop the spread of HIV especially in Africa. Just imagine in 2024 there were 40 million plus HIV patients. This figure is alarming and worrying.
