Why do people carry their smartphone in their hands?

I have noticed that most young people are carrying their smartphone in their hands, in public places, while travelling, It is risky since the phone may fall out. Why do people carry their smartphone in their hand when outdoors?

From my perspective, many young people carry their phones in public places for several reasons. One is the constant connectivity they crave, as they feel they must always be available to answer messages, calls, or simply keep an eye on social media. Additionally, some believe that having their phone close at hand gives them a sense of security and control, especially in environments where they might feel vulnerable without their device nearby. However, this also entails considerable risks, such as accidental drops or theft. Personally, I think many don't fully appreciate the fragility of phones and the possibility of losing them in an instant. In the long run, it would be more advisable to use secure bags or pockets, and if you need to check your device frequently, do so with caution. The trend of carrying phones in your hand also reflects, to some extent, the anxiety of always being connected, but I believe we should be more aware of the risks involved.
