Why do token names get changed?

Recently, the token formerly known as FTM was changed to Sonic. This caused uproar on some exchanges as users felt the FTM token was delisted without notice.

Why do crypto tokens always have their names changed? Is it just a rebrand or team changed?

The names of tokens can be changed as a result of rebranding. Or possibly a partnership with another project.
