Why does governments fail in running businesses?

In most countries, government owned and managed businesses are not doing as well as private owned businesses. Even with the unlimited government has at its disposal, they most times can't run businessss efficiently.

Only schools, colleges, and universities owned by the government are successful. Those government owned businesses that did not succeed might have not been taken seriously by the assigned government employees.

In some cases they do not put in the right persons to handle the business. While there are cases where these businesses are not properly monitored.

Government always plays politics with everything including running of business. That is why businesses they own don't succeed.

In my country the government is being failed by it's employees. Most of them are involved in the embezzlement of government funds among other antisocial criminal behaviours.

Management of government owned businesses are given to people as rewards for political assistance and are not based on merit. Those politicians that come in to manage such businesses with no knowledge about the business would run it down.

The mindset of most government officials is not that business oriented. Also, they tend to be more bureaucratic, affecting the efficiency of the business.

I often deal with government businesses or government-owned enterprises, in general their wealth is very high but profitability is very low, even many are at a loss or fail, firstly, lack of employee discipline so that their work is not effective and efficient, there is no innovation, not focused and consistent, weak risk management etc.
