I am currently at a barber shop charging my device while customers are having their haircuts. Now, they are almost 10 people on the waiting queue to have their haircuts. And more are potentially coming. It is only this single barber who is the owner of the shop that is expected to serve that number of people. I already know that the waiting for a customer to be served is already long.

I thought that it would have been better and more efficient for him to get a good barber to partner with him too to serve the customers. Speed is important in business.

Why don't small business owners like to enlist the services of a helper when the demand for their business is overwhelming?

It mostly out of greed and fear. They do not want to share their profits with others, so they assume they can do it all. Then in other cases they are simply afraid their competitors would use this method in taking their customers completely from them.

Of course, every person/businessperson has a different character, in my regular barbershop there are several employees, and the owner of this barbershop also has many branches in other places. If the owner of a small business/barbershop does not use the services of a maid even though demand is high, especially on weekends, then there are several possibilities such as the barbershop owner is not willing to share income, does not believe in the skills of employees, etc.

I think it has to do with the mentality that they can't share their money with anyone. It is better to employ someone and produce more than ride solo and still produce very little.
And most times, they struggle to meet up with the high demand. And they still lose customers. Doesn't make sense not to get help when demand is overwhelming.

It depends on whether the barber shop always have so many customers. If this just happens occasionally, may be the owner thinks that it is not justified to hire additional help. If this happens frequently, s(he) should get help. Otherwise, customers will go to another shop.

But instead of choking himself to death with work on those peak days, why not arrange to have help only on those peak days?
