According to the report, Elbit Systems is outfitting its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with what it calls the world’s first true hybrid propulsion system. Under a recent deal with Lowental Hybrid, Elbit’s drones will use the Native Parallel Hybrid system, designed to enable seamless transition between combustion and electric flight without major airframe modifications.
The report stated that the system could reportedly push drone flight up to five times longer, with in-flight charging and low-noise operation suitable for covert intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
Lowental claimed its propulsion tech meets NATO standards and is compatible with a wide range of UAVs, a capability Elbit said was validated during initial flight trials.
Lowental Chief Executive Officer Doron Fridman noted in a press release that Elbit Systems is a global leader in unmanned aerial solutions, and they are proud to collaborate with them on introducing true hybrid propulsion into a tactical platform. He said that their work marks an important technological milestone, enhancing endurance, reliability, and simplicity of use.
The report added that Elbit’s selection of Lowental starts with an initial $1.4-million investments, with room for future system upgrades. The agreement is expected to last over a decade, with Lowental providing engineering support throughout.
Additionally, Fridman stressed that this achievement reflects how close cooperation between innovative startups and established defense leaders can accelerate meaningful progress in the UAV domain.
