On some days, I find that the data limit of 3.5 GB daily on the smartphones is being used up very quickly, though I do not watch videos on these smartphones. What could be the reason why the data is used very quickly. Which apps could cause the massive increase in data usage?

If you have any crypto exchange app that you allow to run in the background, they would zap your bandwidth like demons.
Can you clarify what you mean by crypto exchange apps , I am only using a few internet sharing apps in the background and they are not using a large amount of data. I also get paid for watching videos which require data.
I think that user was talking about crypto exchanges like Binance. They really consume a lot of data because they are always checking for updated prices of crypto.
Some apps like Instagram, Tiktok and Snapchat use to consume data . Due to this, i don't have them on my smartphone. Secondly, some modern phones use to consume more data than old phones. My Samsung Galaxy is consuming more than 2gb daily.
Instagram is a data monster. It always sucks up data if your mobile internet is on. Another one is Facebook. That one just can't stop working in the background.
