A 26-year-old mother, Rachael, has narrated how she sold her two-week-old baby for N600,000, due to her inability to cater for the child.

The baby was reportedly sold for N4 million to a 42-year-old woman seeking to adopt a child, but the mother of the child was only given N600,000 by the broker.

Rachael, a resident of Asaba, Delta State, was paraded at the state Police Command alongside two other accomplices by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Bright Edafe
She said she is a mother of one other male child, and that she had to give away the two-week-old baby girl because she was finding it difficult to take care of the two children.

She said the father of the two-week-old baby denied paternity of the child who she said she gave birth to on January 27, 2025.

You can imagine, how much is six hundred thousand naira in this current economy, it won't even take you anywhere. Some people can be really inhumane.

Sometimes I believe it is extreme poverty that do push people into all of this because I don't get it

Yes that's true though, it gets to the stage where they are willing to do anything. They don't think about the future, just that very moment.

That was a shallow reason of the mother. She should have prevented herself to get pregnant because she lacks resources the feed her kids. She is heartless and no conscience. There are indeed many proofs that animals are far better than human moms especially the dogs. They bite fiercely just to defend her pups.

You know that hunger can make one do the unthinkable. But selling your own child this would be the extreme

Yes just like in the bible where those women plot to eat their children one after the other due to the hunger in the land. But at the of the day notting can really justify this kind of action.

Yes no justification for this. You are hungry the best bet is to go work for food and not commit a crime

Can we blame the government for this too? It is foolishness for a person to resort to this. Did they sell her as a baby?
It is just worrisome how some people thought process is. Instead to look for a job they need fast money

I think the woman should not be blamed for her action because the level of hardship is becoming unbearable in Nigeria. Secondly, the woman knows that she can not be able to take good care of the child therefore give it to person who is more likely to take care of the baby.

That's about $400 for a human. People like this would just be having kids without any kinds of pressure. Others are looking for it.
The money was even peanuts. People can so commit crime over very little money.. Sometimes hunger do blind them though.
