The three Aegis-class guided missile destroyers are heading to the waters off Venezuela, a US source told AFP news agency. Last week, Reuters cited a US official who said that military assets in the region would include several P-8 spy planes, warships, and at least one attack submarine. The official told Reuters that the naval assets could also be used “as a launching pad for targeted strikes if a decision is made.”

Meanwhile, Maduro said on August 18 that he would be deploying 4.5 million militia members across Venezuela in response to US "threats.”

Primary reason they're there is because Maduro is assisting the cartels in sending drugs towards the U.S. and the rest of the world. If they just so happen to have to kinetically spank Venezuela once in a while, all the better.
