According to the report, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Sunday announced his resignation following his ruling Liberal Democratic Party's major defeat in the July House of Councilors election.

The report also stated that at a hastily called press conference, Ishiba said he has decided to resign as president of the LDP, meaning he will also step down as prime minister. Ishiba is believed to have found it difficult to remain in office as calls for his resignation grew within the LDP.

The report added that the LDP will now hold a leadership election to select Ishiba's successor. Ishiba is expected to leave office after his successor is elected prime minister at an extraordinary Diet session.

As a reason for his decision, Ishiba noted that his administration has achieved a milestone in tariff negotiations with the United States.

Wow! In Nigeria, you will never see or hear about a politician resign from elective position because it is an avenue of mass looting and embezzlement of public fund. Congratulations to Japan for achieve such a democratic milestone.

That's Japan, a prime minister will resign. Ishiba isn't the first prime minister to resign. His decision gives him peace of mind. He was the one who negotiated Trump to reduce Japan's tariff which is now 15% only.

Just what i was thinking when i read it. It's impossible to see this happening, no matter how much people shout for them to resign they won't.
