The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in northern Nigeria, citing the worsening insecurity that has left communities under siege.

The forum condemned the killing of over 20 soldiers in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, describing it as a clear sign of total security collapse in the region.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Prof Abubakar Jiddere, NEF expressed deep pain over the ambush, warning that the scale and boldness of the attacks show terrorists have effectively declared war on Nigeria.

The president does not have to even wait for such before taking action. The state of our security all over the country is notting to write home about.

That is alarming and worrisome, terrorists are also spreading in Nigeria. The government must do action. That place must be attacked my the military forces to eradicate terrorism. It's crucial if they dominate like Hamas and Houthis terrorists.

The level of insecurity in northern Nigeria calls for serious deliberation and military action. Moreover, the northerners seems to give support to the criminals! No group can terrorize any community without support of some insider.
The insecurity situation in northern Nigeria is a serious issue and has been discussed frequently. Many reports indicate that attacks by criminal groups and insurgents have affected the lives of ordinary people, and the government has been sending in the army and security forces to try to control the situation.

It is true that criminal groups are often able to continue because they have local support, whether through fear, coercion or for some benefit. However, it is not correct to say that all northerners support them; many of them are the main victims of these attacks and need protection and assistance.

Currently, many stakeholders emphasize the importance of thorough deliberation and smart military action, along with community engagement, to reduce attacks and restore peace.
