40-year-old Nigerian boxer, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, has d!ed after collapsing during a boxing match in Ghana.

The former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, was facing Accra-born John Mbanugu, nicknamed “Power” in an undercard bout of Ghana's Professional Boxing League when the incident occurred at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Olanrewaju suddenly fell to the canvas mid-fight, prompting the referee to immediately call for medical assistance.
Medical professionals rushed to the scene but despite attempts to revive him, the 40-year-old boxer was pronounced dead, with reports suggesting he may have suffered cardiac arrest.

There is a high possibility he might have had some internal injuries somewhere, this is one of the risk associated with these kinds of sports.

Yeah he might have gotten that in addition to cardiac arrest. There's no way he would have survived them. But good he still died as an hero with all his achievements

He may have suffered internal bleeding, or he might not have been in top condition when he fought. It really is unfortunate; that's the fate some boxers face. May he rest in peace.

it is really unfortunate for the mother. he was the only child. yes, he might not have been in top condition when he fought. But he still died as an hero.

We can meet death at any time or moment. Death is inevitable. When i heard of the news, am devastating because he is one of my favorite boxer. I have been following him for sometime now.

It is sad that it happened this way and the boxer had to die. I keep asking if proper medical checks were carried out before the match.

I don't know about medical. seeks but I think it is always done before any fight. But it's just a pity that he died this way
