42-year-old Nigerian man, Badetito O. Obafemi, has been sentenced to prison for his role in an online romance scam that targeted elderly victims in Missouri, Minnesota, and New Jersey.

U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 sentenced Obafemi, of Dallas, Georgia, to 24 months without parole.

According to statement by the U.S Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri, the court also sentenced Obafemi to three years of supervised release following incarceration and ordered him to pay restitution of $311,520 to the victims of his crime
 
Yeah too much cases of romance fraud these days. I wonder why people are still falling for fake love . I don't get it.
Good one, there are actually lots of cases like this out there but unfortunately many are still moving freely.

For most of them, they are desperate to find love, so they take their search online, only for people to use their desperation against them.

How could the elderly victims having so much experience in life fall into his trap. He might have taken advantage of their loneliness.
 
Those victims are dumb. They're tolerating the fraudster despite of the fact, their actions are obvious, that is to scam. Many are idiots.
Honestly, i realised that people can fall for anything. Some people don't have thinking faculty. Some people are as dumb as a dead wood.

It is very sad that some of these guys are making Nigerians looks like scams and people who are not to be trusted. Nigeria government should find a way to uproot these evil souls out of country and save us from unnecessary embarrassment.
