A friend of mine just rented a space and started a restaurant there. And it has grown so much and boomed within the last one year. Only for the owner of the building to sell the place and the new owner wants to use the building for residential property. That my friend is frustrated as she might have to go start all over again in another location.

These days one just need to have a backup plan cause the truth of the matter is that they can give you a positive answer now and do something else in the future.

You just need to secure contracts. If a business has enough money, they should pay for a long timeframe for the business premises.

I think is best you sign contract that can protect you in instances like this. Its not ok to have to start over when you had no intentions of doing so especially when business is at its peak.

So asking about future plans is not just about the present condition of the building, but about securing your business's future in that location.
It is always very painful to establish a business in a place and it is booming. Only for the landlord to give you a quit notice shortly after.
