According to the report, Iran’s hardliners slammed the country’s president for his recent statements on US President-elect Donald Trump. President Masoud Pezeshkian in an interview to a US media outlet on January 14, denied Iran’s intention to assassinate Trump.
The report said that speaking to NBC News, Pezeshkian dismissed accusations that Iran planned to avenge the killing of IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani. Gen. Soleimani was killed in Baghdad in 2020 in a US drone strike which Trump ordered during his first term in office.
The report also stated that Pezeshkian said that there was no plot “whatsoever” by Tehran to assassinate the US president-elect. Pezeshkian’s denial came after the US Justice Department in November charged an Iranian man in an alleged murder-for-hire effort to kill Trump.
The report added that his stance was in sharp contrast to multiple threats Iranian officials have made against Trump and his former secretary of state.
Iran is now denying the plot against the failed assassination of President Trump during the US election campaign. There were witnesses from the Islamic group who confirmed that it was Iran through its supreme leader Khamenei who plotted the assassination of President Trump.
