Apple to Pay Masimo Hundreds of Millions of Dollars for Patent

The big story is this: A jury in California has decided that Apple must pay Masimo a hefty fine of **$634M** over a patent for its blood oxygen technology. Masimo said the Apple Watch's workout mode and heart rate alerts stole their idea. Apple has said they disagree with the ruling and will appeal, but Masimo is happy, saying this is a big victory for them to protect their innovation.

This is not the first case Apple and Masimo have clashed over pulse oximetry tech. It went so far as to block the import of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in 2023 over the patent issue. Apple removed the oxygen tech from their watches to avoid the ban and then released a new version in August after getting Customs approval.

I am sure that Apple Inc would appeal this. But I think Masimo has a strong case here and might end up winning the appeal still.
