There was a time that developers of anti virus software made so much money because there was so much demand for those anti-virus software. With time, it seems those antivirus software has waned in popularity. Are anti virus software dying off?

An interesting point you raise. I've also noticed that in the past, almost everyone considered installing a paid antivirus essential, whereas today many no longer see it as necessary. I think the main reason is that operating systems, especially Windows, have greatly improved their internal security. Windows Defender, for example, comes pre-installed and offers pretty decent protection without the need to install additional software.
In addition, user habits have also changed. There's now more awareness about not downloading suspicious files, not opening fraudulent emails, and browsing secure sites. This significantly reduces the risk of infection. However, I don't think antiviruses are completely "dying," but rather transforming. Many companies have evolved to offer more comprehensive cybersecurity suites, including advanced firewalls, phishing protection, VPNs, and parental controls.

It’s true that antivirus software was once very popular. But today, technology has changed—most devices have built-in protection, and people are using more secure online services. This doesn’t mean antivirus is dead; it still plays a vital role, especially for computer users. The key is to choose a solution that suits your needs. Digital protection is still very important.

Back then everyone wanted one on their phone and especially their system but at the moment you rarely see people talking about it though they still use it.

I remember when people used to clamour just to have an anti virus installed on their systems. Operating systems have become more secure now.

I think even android now has a robust system that protects any android device. Anti virus software is not necessary anymore at least at the basic user level.
Most Android phones now have a built-in security system that works very well for average users. Google Play Protect scans apps before they're installed and also continues to monitor them after they're installed. This goes a long way in blocking malicious apps and common attacks. However, if you frequently use public Wi-Fi or download apps outside of the Play Store, it's still a good idea to use a modern antivirus. For average users who follow basic precautions, an antivirus isn't absolutely necessary but can add extra protection when needed.

My Android phone is protected by Kadpersky anti virus. There's no virus that can just attack my phone. Kadpersky is a very reliable anti virus and it's free. For my laptop it's protected by an anti virus from Malaysia. It's a very good anti virus. It auto cleans my laptop before starting my activities.
