Are Hyphens and Abbreviations Good For Domains?

A lot of people try to use hyphens and abbreviations for domains of they cannot get the one they want. For instance if they cannot get the domain healthtips, they will go after health-tips. Do you think this is good strategy? Well, I believe this is not a good strategy as it will confuse people about your hyphenated domain with someone else’s non hyphenated domain. Always stick with clean, brandable names.
 
I find it confusing. In fact, even using a domain like .info or .online would be better probably. Of course, in that case, you'd need to emphasize the domain extension with the name.

But then again, hyphens might work. Perhaps the hyphen could be emphasized on advertising like with the other thing. Just make sure people don't forget to.
