They say that personality can play a big role in the spending habits of a person. They also say that reserved people are less likely to spend more money. Is it true that social people are likely to engage in impulse spending or it is just a fallacy?

There is actually some truth to the idea that personality can influence spending habits. Social or extroverted people often engage more in social activities, which can lead to higher spending on entertainment, dining out, and experiences. Being around others frequently can also increase exposure to marketing, trends, and peer pressure, which sometimes triggers impulse purchases. On the other hand, reserved or introverted individuals may spend less because they engage in fewer social situations and tend to plan their purchases more carefully. That said, personality is not the sole factor—financial literacy, income level, cultural background, and personal values also play a huge role in spending habits. So while social people might have a higher tendency toward impulse spending, it’s not a universal rule, and plenty of extroverts are disciplined with money, just as some introverts may still make impulsive purchases online or when shopping alone.

Yes people who are social might end up spending more than those who aren't but it also depends on the individual as i have seen some who are very social but also mind how they spend.

From what I’ve seen, social people do tend to spend more, but not always impulsively. When you go out often or like being part of gatherings, you naturally end up spending on food, clothes, gifts, and transport. It’s part of the lifestyle. But I think the real difference comes down to self control, not personality. Some social people budget carefully and still enjoy life, while others just swipe their card without thinking. The same goes for quiet folks, some save like pros, and others buy random stuff online late at night. So it’s more about awareness than how social you are.
