Are the usefulness of modems going extinct?

I remember back in the days, when you buy a computer, the next headache would be how to connect your computer to the internet. That's why internet modems were invented and they sold like wildfire.

Fast forward to today, internet modems are almost not used by anyone owing to the fact that people can easily connect their smartphones wirelessly to the internet through hotspot sharing.

Are internet modems still useful in your country? Have you ever had one? Do you still have and use one?
