As a service provider, is it the money first or the service first?

After you have negotiated with a client and you agreed to render the service that you specialize in. What should come first?

Do you request for payments first or you would have to complete job before you asked to be paid?

It depends on who am dealing with, most times I prefer they pay me first or pay part of it before I start the job. This shows their level of seriousness.

It is not a bad approach. That is you being proactive. Some customers are not serious even when they have told you they need your services.

It is service first. Give your customer best of service and you would get your money. The good ones would even tip you on top of it

It depends. There are jobs that I might request money first before I start your work. There are others that I would deliver first before asking for payment. It depends on personalities and the particular job.

Yes, there was a time I went ahead to do a job without payment. After the job the client gave me serious headache and refused to pay.
