The Australian lawmakers have tsken a bold step to ban social media use for children under 16, with the legislation passing the lower house of parliament on Wednesday, November 27.

The bill, which is now set to be debated by the Senate, aims to force companies like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat to take "reasonable steps" to prevent young teens from having accounts.

The law to be enforce stated that Social media firms that fail to comply could face fines up to Aus$50 million (US$32.5 million).

I understand their reasons though and I think it's a good one, but would this actually stop these kids from accessing these social media platforms?

I think the Australian lawmakers made a smart decision. This action is good to protect minors from the negative impacts of social media and from potential predators active on these platforms. I hope other countries will follow suit.

Well, it might not still stop them.as some children can he very cunning but let it be on record that it is official for them not to accesss social media

That's right, the government have played their parts, I think it's not left for the parents to followup and ensure their kids don't do this.

There are some legislations that are just laughable. How can they enforce this kind of legislation now?
I don't understand? Are you of the opinion that these teen kids should be allowed on social media at this age?

That's a good move to ban the 16 year old below to have an account from media. Media can inflict something bad to the minds of the youths. My young nieces and nephews are banned by their parents to create any media account. I like that law.

That's the whole essence. it is to keep children from the negative impacts of social media and from potential predators that ate already active on these platforms.

I too agree with that one because nowadays the social media has brought more of negative effects to the community than good. Therefore controlling the children under the age of 16 is a very good approach in controlling the morality and character of the young ones.

Most social media platforms ruin the lives of the young because of the imitation of the Western culture
That's just it if thru don't copy and executes this things I don't think it is right to keep them away

In a world where children are growing up surrounded by screens, the move is sparking a broader debate about digital freedom and protecting the next generation. Some see it as a wise decision, others as an invasion of personal freedom. But the big question is: can we protect children without denying them the opportunity to learn about technology?

Yes its a good move no doubt, but the question is will they be able to keep this up and properly monitor the kids?

) It depends on the parents. Young people are erratic and unpredictable. They are also tricky and smart. Even if they don't have a cellular phone, but their best friends can always allow them to hitch on their phone.

The young teens have had excessively use of the social media platforms here in my country. Therefore planning on how to curb the situation is really reccomended for that matter.
