A Palestinian-Australian author threatened defamation action against South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas after being axed from Adelaide Writers’ Week. For me, the most relevant aspect is freedom of expression. Personally, I think it’s striking how literature collides with politics. What surprises me is the intensity of legal threats over cultural events. For me, the most important step is dialogue. In the end, I believe this case highlights the fragile balance between art and politics in Australia.
