From the Manila, Philippines report, the combined impact of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has resulted in over PHP5 billion in damage to public infrastructure in eight regions, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday.

In a statement, Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing data from the Bureau of Maintenance said, as of Friday noon, there was an estimated PHP5.25 billion damage to bridges, national roads and flood control projects in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Miraropa, Western Visayas and Negros Island Region (NIR).

The report said that of the figure, the highest recorded damage was at PHP4.19 billion in flood control structures, followed by PHP913.02 million in national roads, and damage to bridges amounting to PHP148.48 million. The figures are still subject to field validation.

In addition, the DPWH reported that 19 national road sections are still closed to traffic in CAR, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon due to fallen trees and electrical cables, debris flow, soil collapse, debris on bridge deck, fallen lamp posts, road slip, collapsed slope protection, and flooding.

The work of mother nature is inevitable. Manila is a large city yes, there are trees but it cannot be made a forest since it is the largest city in the Philippines. Perhaps the dams aren't superior.

It is true that Mother Nature’s work is unstoppable. Big cities like Manila have their challenges, especially when it comes to the environment. Although there are trees, they cannot turn into a real forest, but there is still room for improvement in the greening.

Urban environments require creativity and collective efforts. Even if dams are not very effective, there are still ways to conserve water and reduce the impact of climate change. The right technology and policies can go a long way.

There's an ongoing protest almost a week now. The people learned that the budget intended for flood control was corrupted by the politicians mostly in the House of Representatives and Senate. What a shame to these corrupt politicians. The media here especially Facebook is flooded with rage. Our current president is weak. President Marcos, Jr. is weak compared to the previous president Duterte, there was no occurrence of flooding and drug trafficking.

From the beginning of this year till now, we have had a lot of extreme weather conditions, either extremely hot or the place gets flooded.
Today, two storms will visit my country, though it is Manila, but we also experience here in my place heavy rains. The clouds are getting darker at this moment.
