According to the report, Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has begun serving a 27-year and three-month prison sentence for his role in the attempted coup in 2022.
The report also stated that the 70-year-old conservative leader, who turns 71 in March, is being held at the Federal Police Superintendence in Brasília — the country’s equivalent of a central police headquarters — where he was taken into custody on Saturday after allegedly attempting to evade house arrest.
The report added that the sentence was finalized by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes after Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) declared Bolsonaro’s conviction, which is final.
Additionally, he was sentenced alongside several others identified as part of the first nucleus of individuals behind the plot aimed at preventing President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from assuming office despite winning the October 2022 elections.
