In the midst of a financial crisis, Botswana's Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Nono Kgafela-Mokoka, has called on the working population to contribute money to government coffers. With a plea for all employed individuals to donate at least P10 (estimated to a $1), the minister emphasized the importance of communal effort in weathering the financial challenges facing the country. She questioned, "If each of us can spare just a small amount, isn't that better than merely criticizing and being aware of the constraints?"

This suggestion from the minister highlights the need for a collective approach in tackling economic challenges, especially in a country where government revenue streams are limited. Kgafela-Mokoka's appeal to the working class also points to the government's willingness to explore alternative methods of raising funds, rather than relying solely on traditional tax collection.

However, this proposal may also encounter some resistance, as not everyone may be willing or able to contribute to government coffers. The government will have to ensure that the funds raised are managed transparently and put to effective use in order to gain public trust and support.
