From the Petang, Jaya report, Cambodia and Thailand are willing to consider a ceasefire as border clashes between the two countries escalated drastically on Thursday, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to the report, the Malaysian Prime Minister said he had been in direct communication with his counterparts in Thailand and Cambodia and appealed to both leaders for a de-escalation of the conflict.
“The report said that the Malaysian PM is worried about the escalation of the war between Cambodia and Thailand. In their conversation in Malaysia’s capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025, the Prime Minister appealed directly to both leaders for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further hostilities and to create space for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic resolution.
The report added that the Prime Minister firmly believed that ASEAN’s strength lay in its solidarity and that peace must always be the region’s collective and unwavering choice. Reports said the fighting broke out early Thursday near the disputed Ta Moan Thom Temple and eventually spread to at least six areas along the Thai-Cambodian border.
