I have noticed that sometimes the computer does not function properly when switched on. The computer loads BIOS setup and then stops functioning further. What could be the reason why the desktop does not load windows and complete the boot sequence as it does normally?

This situation always has to do with RAM or the motherboard. It could be that either is damaged or not sitting well.
What is error message? It can be problem with SSD drive to. Without error message I can't tell more.
There is no error message. I start the desktop it loads the BIOS setup screen and stops there. The desktop was functioning properly for a few days now it has again started giving the same problem again.
