Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and public health officials have impounded 10,000 bags of illegally imported sugar in a warehouse in Eastleigh, Nairobi, after tests revealed high levels of lead and other contaminants. A product recall has been issued for specific batches branded "SweetStar" and "CrystalPure". "Consumption of this product poses a serious health risk. We are tracking its distribution chain," warned KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari. Several suspects are in custody, facing charges of dealing in substandard goods. The public is urged to check the KEBS mobile app for certified products.
