Damage to computer cables

Desktop computers use several cables for power supply, monitor, keyboard and mouse, Sometimes when there is no one in the house for a long period , mice, squirrels and other pests may damage the cables. Does anyone know how to prevent the pests from damaging the computer cables?

Most damages to compute cables is as a result of those cables twisting up and down and they tend to break inside.
