According to the report, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) is in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital, while one is still missing after a deadly fire engulfed a high-rise residential complex in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday night. In an update, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Angelica Escalona said both are employed as domestic workers in the Chinese special administrative region.
The report also stated that there are no confirmed Filipino nationals among the fatalities that have already risen to 65. It also said that the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong is in touch with Hong Kong’s Police Force, Labour Department, and Home Affairs Department to determine the whereabouts of the missing Filipino. The Department is monitoring the situation in Tai Po closely. The Department also wishes to thank Hong Kong authorities who are helping locate, identify, and assist affected Filipinos," she said.
Additionally, a total of 23 Filipino domestic workers received welfare assistance from the Consulate, the Migrant Workers Office, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. The three earlier conducted a joint visit to the shelters administered by the Hong Kong government to extend assistance to the affected Filipino nationals.
