Do people get absorbed as staff from trainee programs of companies?

Some companies organize Graduate Trainee Programs for people that want to have field experience. Most people I know have been absorbed to join the staff team of those companies based on how they performed during the trainee program.

Do you know anyone that got employed through trainee programs?

Sure, that's one of the outstanding essence. You get trained and be employed to work for them which is not a bad idea

If you perform well in the trainee program, there is every tendency that the company would retain you and make you a staff.

I was a trainee in the company I am working now. It was a three months training program. And they offered me a staff position after that.

It depends on the company, most of them tend to hire the ones with the best performance into the company as permanent staffs.

I do not know anyone personally, but many companies offer jobs to interns who they feel will make good employees, since they are already familiar with the company culture.

That's right you are correct. During internship thru do observe the ones that are good and should be retained

I know many people that were retained from trainee programs in companies. Even people that didn't read the core course related to that company's operations.
