I don't know if I can motivate adults but I can assure you that teaching this to children will make them as adults know how to save money and how to have good personal finances, so even if it doesn't help current adults, future adults will.

It mostly depends on the individual, for some this might also serve as a form of motivation for them, while for some, this doesn't help them in anyway but the children benefit from it.
