Do you take advance payment for your work?

When I work for clients, I like to take advance payment for all kinds of tasks I am hired for, either a short term tasks or a monthly renewable tasks. When I was working in a real job, I used to get paid after the month end but sometimes I also took advance payment especially when I needed money badly. Do you take advance payment from your employee? How frequently?

I am a freelancer offering translation service. Usually, for translation service, you do not request advance payment from your client. You can only get paid when your task is completed.
