Does smartphones really need antivirus?

I heard someone say that the Operating system of Android devices and iOS devices have built-in security features that makes the use of antivirus softwares on these smartphones needless.

Is it true that we don't need antivirus on these smartphones?

One thing that I know for sure is that Android has Google Play Protect as a feature that scans app before and after installation to see if it has a virus. No need for anti virus software.

For the period of like three years of usage of my hand device, l have never been asked about the anti-viral.

Yes it does, most times we download apps outside of play store that are harmful. There are also cases of visiting sites with harmful contents and the likes.

Perhaps some smartphone users prefer to use antivirus software for their peace of mind. Currently, I do not use any antivirus software on my smartphone.

My Samsung A9 came with its default McAfee security suite and it's 5 years it works well. And no incompatibility issues with other antivirus free (I have Kaspersky free installed also). Probably I won't need any, as I never download out of Play Store, nor visit doubtful sites, but maintaining security tools it's my preference, in any way. Especially considering I mostly use a mobile to perform online banking and investments.

Clearing cookies would really help you stay safe online. But I want to know if old files pose any real danger to my phone because I have files as old as 7 years on my smartphone.

I think all those antivirus app on an android device is not necessary. You could have as well just had one. It can clog your mobile devices easily.

Yes! It is absolutely true. My phone have inbuilt security features. I think this is one of the reason we need to be updating our phone regularly.

For me l really take the antivirus thing on phone or computer very seriously. Once some viruses get into devices it becomes very difficult for that device to work seamlessly.

I don't have an anti virus on my smartphone and I don't have any problem with it because the Google anti virus works well for me.

While both Android and iOS devices come with built-in security features, whether you need additional antivirus software depends on your usage habits. iOS has a more controlled environment, making it harder for malware to infiltrate. Android, being more open, can be vulnerable if you download apps from untrusted sources. So, for most users, built-in protection is enough, but extra antivirus can add a layer of security if you're concerned.

I very scarcely see people use anti virus on their phones. I think it is just a waste of space especially for android. Google already has a strong anti malware.
