As a business owner, there are some times that we experience a delay in your business process and that might affect your delivery to your customers.

Let the customers know the the delays you are experiencing so that they know what to expect.
 
It is the right of the customer to know what's delaying their order. It is unethical not to let them know.
 
This is a matter of common sense in business. You can't keep your customers in the dark with issues that might likely cause delays to their orders.
It is absolutely true you cannot leave a customer in the dark about late shipment because trust is capital of any business. Prompt communication prevents anger and protects your reputation in the market from complaints.
