According to the report, the US top diplomat is holding talks with European countries to create a coalition to counter drug cartels operating under Maduro, reported ABC. Marco Rubio has initiated talks with his regional allies, Mexico and Canada, as well as with the governments of Italy, the UK, and France, as per the Spanish publication. France has already confirmed its support for the initiative and will send warships to the island of Guadeloupe, which is under its jurisdiction.
The report also said that the development comes amid a larger US naval buildup in the Southern Caribbean is aimed at “targeting” Latin American drug cartels. The Pentagon has said that a total of eight US warships are now involved as part of a broader "enhanced counter narcotics operation" in Latin America.
