I thought I had heard that free sites don't get approval to be monetized using Ad Sense. I was on one Proboards hosted free site recently. It is owned by @Mike30 and it is being monetized using Ad Sense.

What can you say about that monetization?

Proboards.com covers the costs of hosting forums people create through them, by having advertising from Google Adsense and other earning programs.

The individual that owns the forum, has to pay for adfree advertising, to even consider putting their own advertising they earn from on the forum.

As mentioned above, I am not monetizing that forum. ProBoard does. I guess I could add an addon to show my own AdSense ads, but that would be too much ads. In reality, I do not like to put AdSense on my sites, I will always try to find other ways to monetize it. AdSense would be my last resource.

Contrarily, Adsense is my first resource. I try to limit ads to 2-3 units per page and as long as I receive traffic I will be earning. :D
