Gmail users have been urged to check their accounts after more than 183 million passwords were stolen in a data breach.

Australian cyber expert Troy Hunt, who revealed the incident, called it a 'vast corpus' of breached data, which totals 3.5 terrabytes. He explained that's the equivalent of 875 full-length HD movies.

According to Mr Hunt, 'all the major providers have email addresses in there' – so not just Gmail, but Outlook, Yahoo and others too.

'They're from everywhere you could imagine, but Gmail always features heavily,' Hunt told the Daily Mail

Gmail users have been urged to review their accounts after learning that more than 183 million passwords were stolen in a data breach. Australian cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt, who revealed the incident, described it as a "vast corpus" of compromised data totaling 3.5 terabytes, equivalent to about 875 full-length HD movies.

According to Hunt, all major providers have email addresses in that database, including not only Gmail but also Outlook, Yahoo, and others. The addresses come from different parts of the world, but Gmail frequently appears in these breaches, Hunt told the Daily Mail.

The breach is very serious, more than 183 million passwords have been leaked and Troy Hunt said the data is as large as 3.5 terabytes, imagine that's like 875 HD movies in it, not only Gmail is affected, even Outlook and Yahoo are also affected. Gmail is also very featured on that list, so people are advised to check their accounts very quickly, change their passwords, set up two-factor authentication and don't take it for granted because scammers can misuse those credentials.
