Play Protect is the reason that I don't have any anti virus installed on my android phone. It offers sufficient protection.

I stop the download unless I fully trust the developer and the source. Play Protect blocks a lot of apps for real reasons, malware or shady permissions. If it is not from the Play Store or a well known developer, I skip it and look for an alternative.
