A Welsh education centre is investigating the strange discovery of hundreds of Victorian shoes during a beach clean-up. Volunteers from the Coast Academy, working on a rock pool restoration project in south Wales, discovered around 200 shoes and soles in late December.
Locals have said they have found similar shoes on the beach for years. Authorities now have two main theories about their origin: one suggests the shoes came from the Frolic, a cargo ship carrying goods from Italy that crashed nearby in the 19th century. The other points to cobblers in the 1960s who may have dumped the unwanted shoes and boots into the Ughmore River.
