How long can a business last for it to survive the death of it's founder?

It is always like businesses die if the person that founded the business dies. That is not good because businesses are supposed to be self sustaining at a point.

How long would a business be running before it can survive the death of it's founder? Some say 15 years.
 
Personally, I don't think it is mostly about how long the business has been around, but it mostly depends on the kind of structure that has been put in place before now.
